Women in Leadership

Women in leadership positions give both financial and social benefits. Women have a vast form of knowledge that contribute to society. However women are still under-represented in high level positions and in decision making. In order to combat discrimination and stereotypes of women in leadership roles, the social constraints must first be explored.

Women in many societies lack education, skills, confidence, and training and are also hindered by their poverty and traditional roles as a wife and mother to be given the opportunity to take on leadership roles. In the past thrity years women have already made progress in achieving gender equality. Women now hold the titles of President, Prime Minister, CEO and Members of the Parliament. Increasing women in leadership positions contributes to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) of gender equality and women’s empowerment. However we have a long way to go in order to ensure that women are equally represented in leadership positions both here in Australia and globally.
